VISIT TO RĀZNA NATIONAL PARK

Jānis Eglītis Preili State Gymnasium Class 11D students went on a tour to explore the cultural and historical sites in the territory of Rāzna National Park.

During the tour, we visited the Natural Education Centre “Rāzna”, where we had an opportunity to get to know more about the Latvian nature and its protected areas. At the beginning of the presentation, the centre employee informed us about the nature parks, rezerves and protected areas in the territory of Latvia and their signifance. The practical part included putting various puzzles together and formation of maps with different Latvian ecosystems, like, swamps, lakes, meadows and their role in the life of humans and animals. Unfortunately, due to the bad weather conditions, we could not walk along the Trail of Feelings.

Later we visited the museum “Andrupenes lauku sēta” where we saw a more than a hundred year old farmhouse, a granary, a black bathhouse and a smithy,as well as, many tools and household objects used by our ancestors centuries ago. We also had a chance to taste one of our traditional dishes – bread and ham baked in an oven.

Finally, we went to Jaundome Manor where the renovated barn is home to the Jaundome Environmental Education Centre and Exhibition Hall. During the guided tour, we explored one of the largest fresh water fish mulage collections in Latvia, stuffed water birds, and increased our knowledge on the waterworld. We also tried pike soup and baked Landlord’s croissants.

At the end of the excursion we walked along the Ežezers nature trail and saw beaver dams.

We are very grateful for the opportunity to see our region – Latgale. The day was great, full of positive emotions and new experiences.
